Shift Mechanic /Plant Mechanic

Position Description
General Function: Utilizes expertise to facilitate departmental goals by performing the
duties below in conjunction with department specific tasks.

Supervised By: Operations Manager, Departmental Supervisor, or Lead

Supervisory Responsibility: As delegated by Dept. Supervisor on "as needed basis"

(other duties may be assigned):

1. Inspects, operates and tests machinery in order to diagnose system functioning (malfunctioning).

2. Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines solutions, checking blueprints, manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.

3. Uses hand and power tools common to the trades in order to repair or disassemble current equipment and/or install new equipment.

4. Fabricates fixtures and/or materials necessary for the repair or installation of equipment.

5. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines run reliably and efficiently.

6. Reviews work in progress, checks/inspects as necessary to ensure conformance with Company and industry specifications.

7. Promotes and demonstrates proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

8. Promotes and demonstrates continuous improvement of workplace safety, including personal safety, the protection of property and the safety of the food supply throughout its handling and processing.

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Shift Mechanic DUTIES:
1. Assists Supervisor with the implementation of training programs, including proper work techniques.

2. Complies with and helps implement Food Safety Program, which ensures that our products meet customer specifications, and are safe, legal and wholesome.

3. Moves materials or goods between work areas and/or storage.
4. Moves/lifts heavy objects, assists with loading/unloading of equipment.

5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: Employee must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of five (5) years related experience. Demonstrated understanding of mechanical, thermal and electrical principles.

Language Skills: Ability to understand/follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and understand complex documents related to the installation or repair of equipment.

Math Skills: Knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, fractions, percentages, decimals and conversions from one numerical form to another. Ability to read monitoring equipment and transfer data.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply inductive and deductive reasoning to problem solving. Ability to visualize how objects will look when re-arranged or rotated.

Certificates/Licensure: May be required to obtain trade license and must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to coordinate hand movements to grasp, manipulate and assemble objects.

Safety and Health: Knowledge of Company and industry safety and manufacturing standards.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Personal Protective Equipment is required and includes: protective head
gear (bump cap), and Company approved hearing protection, a hair net and may include other department specific items.

Employees must rinse hands in a sanitary dip prior to handling the product. Personal cleanliness is required.
